Winter Affair by Color Club

I picked up these 4 minis from the 2012 Winter Affair collection from Color Club.

First up is Gift of Sparkle.  It is a shimmery purple based glitter with purple & red micro holographic glitter.  It has a lot going on...I love it!!

Berry & Bright is a red that has a glass fleck finish.  The shine is really intense.  Another winner.

Ho Ho Holly is a very rich green-gold foil polish.  Lovely!

Snowflakes is a flaky polish.  I put it over China Glaze's Call of the Wild.  Great Fall manicure.

I was really glad I picked these up, very impressive.  Great Winter/Holiday season polishes.

Sally Hansen's Mermaid's Tale & Jungle Gem

I picked up a couple of the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes.  I had stayed away from them because of the humongous brush...but I just had to get Mermaid's Tale.  One bottle of polish is just so sad and lonely, so I picked up Jungle Gem to go with it :)  BTW I used an old brush to apply the polishes.

Mermaid's Tale is a blackened-blue jelly based glitter with large blue & green glitter, as well as smaller, dark blue glitter.  I've been told it is a dupe for Deborah Lippmann's Across the Universe and it is similar to Milani's Teal, from the Jewel FX collection.  The sun really shows off this beautiful polish!

Jungle Gem is a teal creme polish, with excellent coverage.  I probably could have gotten away with one coat.

I really like the formula of both of these polishes, but the brush is a deal breaker for me...would probably not buy any more :(

Mani Mondays - Dots

It's Mani Monday!! I think the name says it all…very simple; every Monday I will do a themed manicure and will blog about it. This weeks theme is DOTS!

I love my dotting tools because you can feel artistic even when you are not!!

I used Essie's Mint Candy Apple, China Glaze's Sun of a Peach and Sally Hansen's White On.

I just had to add an honourable mention!  My current pedicure because...well...it is a dot pedicure :)

Go check out Mani Mondays on Facebook to see a bunch of cool dot manicures!  Next week's theme is BACK TO SCHOOL!!

National Waffle Day!

This is my 2nd National Day of...CHALLENGE and it is National Waffle Day!!  Waffle Day celebrates the patenting of the waffle iron by Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York on August 24, 1869.

This one was kind of tricky for me and I gave it a couple of shots.  This is the one that most resembled a waffle :)

Polish Used

What it is SUPPOSED to be…LOL

Lemonade by Orly
Butter
White On by Sally Hansen
Whipped Cream
Espresso by Revlon
Waffle
My Vampire is Buff by OPI
Waffle
Matte About You by Essie
Syrup

I also used a stamping plate to try and create the diagonal pattern.

Well...that is my interpretation of a waffle.

Next up is Skyscraper Day!!

Essie's Midnight Cami

Midnight Cami is part of the 2009 Fall collection.  It is a fabulous jewel toned midnight blue.  It has fine micro shimmer, but I don't think my pictures picked up on them.  Formula was great, was opaque with 2 coats.

I don't have any polishes in my stash that come close to this colour!

Avon Cosmic Collection - Part 3

Here are the final 2 polishes in the Avon Cosmic collection.

Celestial is a light blue-green scattered holographic.  This one required 3 coats to achieve opacity.

Starburst is a wonderful magenta scattered holographic.  Only 2 coats for full coverage.

I can't say enough about this collection, they are stunning.

I have joined the group National Day of...CHALLENGE.  First up is National Cupcake Day! Who doesn't like a cupcake?

Next up National Waffle Day!

Mani Mondays - Glitter

It's Mani Monday!!  I think the name says it all…very simple; every Monday I will do a themed manicure and will blog about it.

This weeks theme is GLITTER.

Well, I couldn't just pick one glitter, so I picked a light and dark one!  I chose Deborah Lippmann's Let’s Go Crazy and Indie Polish's Finding Dory.

Let's Go Crazy is a dark purple-based jelly polish with red, green, blue, gold, light purple and fuchsia glitter of round and hexagon shapes. Coverage is good for a glitter polish, as it is very thick. The glitter actually sits below the surface so it gives the ‘jelly sandwich manicure’ look.

Finding Dory is a blue and neon yellow micro glitter.  I applied 2 coats after applying 1 coat of Pure Ice in Wild Thing as a base. Initially I thought it was green, but it is definitely a neon yellow. This is like a party on your nails!

Go check out Mani Mondays to see a bunch of cool glitter manicures!  Next week's theme is DOTS!!

Avon Cosmic Collection - Part 2

Here are 2 more of the Avon Cosmic collection.

Moonbeam is a beautiful silver scattered holographic.

Saturn is my favourite of the bunch.  It is a beautiful dark burnt orange.  I've not seen anything like it.  Such a great fall colour.

Again, both polishes have great formulas, opacity with 2 coats.

Avon Cosmic Collection - Part 1

Here are 2 of the 10 polishes in the Avon Cosmic collection.  It is a fabulous scattered holographic collection that I fell in love with.

First up is Eclipse...it is a very dark teal.  It kind of reminded me of A England's Saint George. Every picture I took it looks different.

Super Nova is a coral/red.  Again it looks different in different light.

What great polishes.  Formula is wonderful, achieving opacity with 2 coats.  They retail for 6.99, but I picked them up for 3.99 Canadian.

Mani Mondays - Neon

It's Mani Monday!!  I think the name says it all…very simple; every Monday I will do a themed manicure and will blog about it.

Put your sunglasses on because this week's theme is NEON.

This is Finger Paints Silkscreen Green...one of my favorite neons.  It is from the 2012 Summer Neon collection.  It is an eye catching, bright neon green.  I used a white base prior to applying and it only took 2 coats to achieved opacity.

But I couldn't stop there, so I decided to jazz it up a bit and add some flowers and such.  I used:
  • Sally Hansen's White Out
  • Orly's Lemonade
  • Finger Paints Warhol Wannabe
  • China Glaze That's Shore Bright
  • Finger Paint's Silkscreen Green

Go check out Mani Mondays to see a bunch of cool neon manicures!  Next week's theme is GLITTER!! Lindsay (the creator of Mani Mondays) is the 'glitter queen'...how will she ever choose?

Plaid Nail Design

Happy Saturday!!

I saw a cute plaid nail design in one of those nail polish strip sets and thought I would try to recreate it myself.  Here is the result.

Not bad I guess, maybe next time I will use a couple of colours and thinner lines.  I guess we all have to start somewhere :)

Finger Paints in 'Midnight Sleigh Ride' and 'Sparkle Top Coat'

I don't have a bunch of Finger Paints polishes but the ones I do own have great formulas. Here are a couple of polishes I picked up.

Midnight Sleigh Ride is a medium blue with silver and blue micro glitter.  Two coats and I achieved full opacity.

Sparkle Top Coat is a clear based top coat consisting of holographic bar and hexagon glitter. Was pretty easy to work with.  I achieved the look I wanted with 2 coats.

I am going to have to keep my eye on Finger Paints...because I really like them!

Two of My Favourite Essie go-to Summer Polishes

Here are a couple of my favourite Essie go-to Summer polishes.  The names are so fun ;)

Bikini so Teeny is from the 2012 summer collection.  It is a light periwinkle blue with a slight silver shimmer.  It is just beautiful.

In the Cab-ana is from the 2013 resort collection.  It is a brighter version of robins egg blue. Such a unique colour.

I have just rediscovered Essie polishes.  A few years ago I found that their formula was not good, finding it hard to apply and achieve opacity.  I love them now!

Mani Mondays - Accent Nail

First off, happy Civic Holiday Monday to all my fellow Canadians:)

It's Mani Monday!!  I think the name says it all…very simple; every Monday I will do a themed manicure and will blog about it.  This week's theme is  'accent nail'.

I chose Essie's DJ Play That Song and Indie Polish's Kaboom.  DJ Play That Song is part of the 2013 neon collection.  It is a vibrant purple-violet colour and would match just about any skin tone. I initially didn't think this was a neon so I didn't bother with a white base coat but it was next to impossible to apply.  So I applied a white base coat this time and a couple coats of the polish to achieve opacity.  Indie Polish is a Canadian company that makes unique handmade nail polish. Kaboom is a clear based polish packed full of plum and dark pink micro glitter.

Go check out Mani Mondays to see a bunch of cool accent manicures!  Next week's theme is NEON!!
